Gwanaksan, meaning “mountain crowned with peaks,” is a dramatic granite mountain located just south of central Seoul. Known for its sharp ridges, unique rock formations, and hidden temples, it's a favorite among locals looking for a more adventurous—but still accessible—hike. Though some parts of Gwanaksan are steep and rocky, there are also routes that are suitable for beginners or those seeking a quieter mountain experience.

This guide introduces three beginner-friendly courses on Gwanaksan, each offering a distinct atmosphere, views, and access points.

 

Course 1: Yeonjudae via Gwacheon

A scenic trail to a mountaintop hermitage with sweeping views

Duration: 3–3.5 hours round trip

🧭 Trailhead: Sadang Neighborhood Trailhead (사당역 λ’€νŽΈ)
