Seoul’s Winter Lights & Festive Season

December in Seoul is a season of sparkling lights, crisp winter air, and warm holiday cheer. Across the city, major winter festivals illuminate the night—perfect for families, couples, and anyone who enjoys a beautiful stroll through Seoul’s winter scenery. From lanterns along Cheonggyecheon to vibrant light art installations downtown, here are the key events and Christmas hotspots to enjoy this month.





1. Seoul Lantern Festival (서울 빛초롱축제)

📍 Cheonggyecheon Stream (Gwanghwamun → Dongdaemun section)

Seoul’s beloved lantern festival returns with a spectacular display of traditional Korean lanterns and modern LED installations. The entire Cheonggyecheon area becomes a glowing riverside gallery, creating a magical winter walk through the city.

Seoul Winter Festa is a city-wide light and media art festival, spreading across downtown’s most iconic spaces. From projection mapping to immersive light sculptures, each location offers a different winter mood.

Whether you start in Gwanghwamun or stroll toward DDP or Seoul Plaza, each area offers plenty of visual charm.

3. Hangang Winter Festival (한강 겨울 페스티벌)

📍 Yeouido, Banpo, and multiple Hangang Park locations

The Hangang Winter Festival adds a warm year-end atmosphere along the riverside. Yeouido and Banpo feature Christmas-style markets, winter-themed displays, and cozy light artworks.
